Carlin Sue Fenstermaker, affectionately known to many as Aunt Sue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital in Sullivan, MO. Born on February 6, 1946, in Mineral Point, MO, to David and Wynona (Shiverdeck) Turntine, Sue's journey through life was marked by her unwavering kindness, generosity, and loving nature.
Growing up in Missouri, Sue's early life was filled with the simple pleasures of small-town living. She graduated from Potosi High School in 1964, where she formed lasting friendships and developed a strong sense of community. Sue's heart found its match in Gale Fenstermaker, whom she married on April 3, 1965 (and celebrated their 60-year anniversary this past year). Together, they moved to Arnold, MO, to build a life rich in love and shared experiences. Their family grew with the arrival of two sons, Marty and Shannon, who were the pride and joy of Sue's life.
Sue's professional journey was largely spent in the food industry, where her warmth and dedication shone brightly. She embarked on her career as a server and, through hard work and determination, climbed the ranks to management. Sue was a familiar and beloved figure at various Red Lobster restaurants, including those in Ballwin, Crestwood, and Lindberg. Her commitment to excellence and her nurturing spirit made her a favorite among both staff and patrons.
Following her time in the food industry, Sue found her true calling as a CNA for BJC Healthcare. There, she passionately cared for newborn infants in the Maternity Care Nursery. Her love for this work was evident in the nearly two decades she spent nurturing the lives of countless babies, providing them with a gentle and caring start to their journeys.
After nearly 50 years of making memories in Arnold, Sue and Gale moved to Sullivan in 2017, where they settled into their final home. Retirement provided Sue with the opportunity to indulge in her love for traveling, walking, and engaging in social outings with her wide circle of friends and acquaintances. One of her favorite destinations was the serene beauty of Mackinaw Island in Michigan, a place that held a special spot in her adventurous heart.
Aunt Sue's heart was always with her family, and she cherished the times spent in the kitchen during "Bake Days" with the Turntine family. Her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews held a special place in her heart. To them, she was more than just Aunt Sue; she was a mentor, a confidante, and a source of unconditional love and support.
Those who knew Carol "Aunt Sue" Fenstermaker will remember her as a beacon of love, kindness, and generosity. Her presence was a comfort, her laughter contagious, and her ability to make anyone feel loved was unparalleled. Sue's legacy is one of profound love and the countless lives she touched with her compassionate spirit.
There were many special relatives who provided love and care to Gale and Sue these past years. Her nieces, Sandra (Bizzle) Weir, who gave daily care to them, lived next door, was Sue's "partner in crime" and according to Sue, was her "Angel" on earth and Jody (Wayne) Turntine who she loved with all her heart and was a source of strength; her nephew, Jim and Marla Turntine for providing a place to live and always looking out for their best interests; and great niece and nephews, Misty Cason for taking flowers to Shannon's grave and love to Justin & Dale Bizzle for always helping when needed.
Aunt Sue is survived by her husband, Gale; her son, Marty Fenstermaker and wife, Scarlett of Fenton, MO; 8 grandchildren: Kyle Fenstermaker, Sammie McGrath, Sunny McGrath, Sadie McGrath all of Arnold, MO, Devon Fenstermaker, Libby Fenstermaker both of Union, MO, Reagan Fenstermaker of Minnetonka, MN, and Peyton Fenstermaker of Sunny Morning, IA; 6 great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Chase, Cameron, Ashton Lee, Ford & Macy; Special friends from local restaurants: Darryl, Sammy, Amber, Nathan & Alyssa; and numerous nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Shannon Fenstermaker; her parents, David & Wynona Turntine; 4 brothers: Johnny, Dale, Donny & Charles Turntine; and 4 sisters: Beatrice Turnbull, Evelyn Sparks, Minnie Chasteen, & Geneva Hayes.
