Dear Linda, Annemarie, Janet, & Ellen:

I am so sorry to learn of your mother's death. I'll never forget Carol's kindness, when she and Ellen visited me with chocolate chip cookies in 1977, after my husband died. Sam and Nelson were good buddies! They will all be missed.

Carol - while Sam was my science mentor, you were my cooking & practicality mentor - I'll remember always your advice while I was a grad student living at Harvard's Agassiz Station on cooking ["Carol, I've cooked the liver 5 mins. on each side - now what do I do?"] and on fixing electronics ["Carol, the power supply doesn't work & I can't reach Sam - what should I do?" "Well I always try just kicking it!"].
