With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Carol Lee Gurnsey, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and wife, on June 26, 2024. Born in Corning, NY, on June 4, 1943, Carol was a beacon of resilience, empathy, and spirit, whose life was a testament to her love for her family and her dogs. She lived in the Painted Post and Corning, NY area after living down South with her Military Veteran husband and their 4 kids.
Carol worked jobs off and on during and after raising 4 children. She worked for the school district for several years at CPP East High School and at Bon-Ton. She had also earned a certificate of cosmetology. However, her truest joys came from the time she spent with her family and the dogs she used to breed. Eating dinner and spending time with her son, Tom, and her grandkids calls were the highlights of her day; she loved the almost daily calls she received from them. Carol was a pillar of strength and love, running her household with a blend of stubbornness and affection that was uniquely hers. She was an avid shopper, and she enjoyed spoiling her dogs with treats and arguing with them when they laid down and blocked an entire hallway.
Carol leaves behind her husband, Clinton Gurnsey; her children, Tamisue (Dan) Wills, Tanny (Butch) Duell, and Thomas Gurnsey; daughter-in-law, Christine; and her adored grandchildren, Danielle (Nic), Jacob (Amberley), Nathan, Roland, Justin (Cassie), Chevelle, Sierra, Savannah, Andrea (Henri), Ryan (Kara), and Karissa (Chris). She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Erma Winder; her uncle, Fred Sherman who stepped in as her father when Leo died when she was 6; her son, Tim; and other uncles, aunts, and grandparents.
A graveside service in memory of Carol will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Bath National Cemetery, San Juan Avenue, Bath, NY. Please arrive at the cemetery entrance 15 minutes prior to the service.
We invite you to remember Carol's resilient and loving spirit and to celebrate the vibrant life she led. In remembrance of Carol, we encourage you to share your favorite memories and upload photos of her to her memorial page at www.haugheyfuneralhome.com. Your stories and pictures will help keep her memory alive and provide comfort to those who miss her.
