Carol F. Gurnsey, age 75 of Campbell, New York passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Corning Center.
She was born on April 6, 1949 in Urbana, New York to Franklin and Mary (Whitney) Hodge. Carol was a 1967 graduate of Campbell School District. She married James Gurnsey on December 9, 1967.
Carol was employed as a teaching assistant by the Campbell-Savona Central School, where she worked until her retirement in 1999. She truly cherished her time working with children and made a lasting impact on many young lives.
In her free time, Carol was known for her incredible talent as a seamstress. Her crafting abilities extended to sewing, quilting, and cake baking, all of which she did with great skill and passion. Carol also enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly camping with her family, and she had a love for music.
A devoted member of the Thurston Christian Church, Carol played an instrumental role in forming local women's societies and organizing community dinners. Her contributions to her church and local community were deeply valued, and she was a beloved figure to many.
Carol is survived by her husband James Gurnsey; sons: Mathew (Misty) Gurnsey of Avoca, Mark (Kelly) Gurnsey of Savona; daughter in law: Kate Gurnsey of PA; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by a son James Gurnsey Jr.
A memorial service will be held at Thurston Christian Church,7511 County Rte 333, Campbell, NY 14821 on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 2:00pm with Rev. David Peck officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips Funeral Home in Corning.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's name may be sent to Children's Cancer Research or Parkinson Foundation.
