Carol Roberts Harvey, age 81, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 20, 2024 surrounded by her children. Carol was witty, strong, smart, patient and above all else a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Beloved wife of the late Robert "Bob" Harvey, adoring mother to Kristin (Les) Russell of Potomac, Maryland, Doug (Tiffy) Harvey of Hudson, Ohio and Heidi (Mike) Grady of Hudson, Ohio; loving grandmother to Maddy and Teddy Russell, Reese, Brooke and Jack Harvey, and Finn and Molly Grady; sister of John (Shelly) Roberts and Anne Clarke; sister-in-law of William (Diana) Harvey; and aunt of Sara, Lauren, Matt, Michael, Sarah, and Stewart.
Carol was born on December 7th, 1942, in Rochester, New York. She had an idyllic childhood with lasting memories of time spent with family on Lake Canandaigua. Later, the family moved to Boston and then San Diego where she graduated from Grossmont Union High School in 1960. She met Bob, the love of her life, at San Diego State University and they married June 19th, 1964, a week after college graduation. Bob's military service and career moved them to Fort Lee and Richmond, Virginia, Orinda, California and ultimately brought them to Hudson in 1975.
Carol knew from a young age she wanted to become a teacher. For almost 30 years, she taught first grade at Evamere Elementary School. Carol's dedication to her students was evident as she strived each day to instill in them confidence, kindness and a lifelong love of reading and learning. Continuing her own education, she earned a Masters Degree in Special Education from Kent State University in 1981. Her colleagues from Evamere remained lifelong friends.
From years of teaching the Friends Adult Class at the First Congregational Church to volunteering with Hudson Kiawanis, Hudson Community Service Association, and being a member of P.E.O., Carol generously gave back to the Hudson community she lived in for almost 50 years.
Above all, Carol cherished her family and her role as mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren became the light of her life and they were fortunate to have spent so many wonderful years together. Her warm smile, sense of humor, and kindness will be missed by all who loved her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Laurel Lake in Hudson and Maplewood Senior Living in Twinsburg for their compassionate care over the last several years.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Carol's passion for education, donations can be made to The Carol Harvey Memorial Scholarship at the Hudson Community Foundation (myhcf.org). Private family services will be held at the First Congregational Church.
