Carol Johnson

Carol Ann Johnson of Watertown, SD passed away at the age of 82 on January 7, 2026 in Watertown, SD.

Funeral services will be 10:30am, Monday, January 12, 2026 at Cornerstone Church in Watertown.

Visitation will be from 2-4 pm on Sunday January 11, 2026 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be: George Blais, Aaron Schroeder, Jerry Johnson, Darin Rislov, Matthew Blais and Mackenzie Blais. Honorary Pallbearers: Red Hat Society.

In lieu of flowers memorials maybe designated to Stoney Brook 500 16th Ave NE, Watertown, SD 57201.

Carol was born in Watertown, SD on February 17, 1943, to Ernest and Phylis Hemstock. During her early years she attend public school in Watertown where she graduated in 1961. Carol married John H. Johnson on October 7, 1962, in Watertown. After marriage they lived on the Johnson family farm north of Florence, SD. Carol was a homemaker and deeply devoted to her three children.

Carol was a fixture in the Florence United Methodist church where she played piano and organ, regularly attended the women's Circle group, and did other volunteer activities for the church. Carol spent many hours attending her children's activities like 4H, high school sports, and rodeos. Later she attended many of her grandchildren's activities and events as well.

After her children were grown she dedicated herself to the Republican Women, Red Hat Society, volunteering as a teen mentor for Kid's Hope, sitting on the Dakota Farm Mutual insurance board, and was a Codington County Commissioner for many years.

Carol was a blessing to everyone she met and was a mother and grandmother to many beyond her immediate family. She enjoyed time with family and friends whenever the occasion arose. Often planning and coordinating the events themselves.

Carol is survived by her children Connie Blais (George) of Watertown, SD, Carter Johnson (AnneMarie) of Blackhawk, SD, and David Johnson of Austin, TX, foreign exchange student Esa Hakarauta of Finland and her grandchildren Matthew, MacKenzie, Marissa, Emily, Sydney, Brooke, Caroline, and Clifford. She was also blessed with nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John H Johnson, parents Ernest and Phylis Hemstock, and her brother Clifford Hemstock.
