Carol Lytle Obituary
Carol Ann Lytle went to be with The Lord on Feb. 4th, 2026. She was 88 eighty-eight years old. Born in Cargill, Ontario on November 16th, 1937, she longed to get out to the 'big city.' She initially went to a convent in Toronto where she chose the name "Sister Charles Garnier." Her family lovingly called her "Sister Chuck" thereafter. Desiring a different path, she went to Ann Arbor, Michigan for nurse training, where she met and married Doug Bruce. She became a US citizen in 1970. Doug enlisted in the Air Force to complete his radiology training and was stationed at Fairchild AFB. After discharge, they moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. An avid competitive runner, Carol often won or placed in her age group in many marathons and 10ks, even being called to the podium after a Bloomsday race in the '80s. After their divorce, she married Robert Lytle, staying with him until his death in 2001. Carol worked as nurse at Kootenai Memorial for fifteen years. She was known for her compassionate care and loving bedside manner. After retiring, she moved to Spokane to be closer to her grandchildren. She stayed active in retirement, travelling to Israel, Bosnia, and several return trips to Ontario. She also loved playing tennis, going dancing, and watching the Mariners Spring Training in Arizona. She was a member or St. Augustine's and Sacred Heart parishes in Spokane. For the last six years of her life, she lived at Palouse Country Assisted Living, where she received very loving and compassionate care, and enjoyed frequent visits from her family, attending their holiday gatherings, as well as joining in various facility outings and activities. She is survived by her sons Craig Bruce of Coeur d'Alene, Jim Bruce (daughter-in-law Jill Bruce) of Rockford Washington; Grandson Kieynyn Hudson of Seattle; Grandson Josh Bruce or Durango Colorado; Granddaughter Janie Bruce, also of Durango; Brother Don Raper of Windsor, Ontario; Brother Bob Raper of Mildmay Ontario; and Sister Mary Lou Halk of Walkerton, Ontario. She is preceded in death by brothers Doug and Brian Raper of Windsor and Chepstow Ontario, respectively. Carol's generous and loving nature and sweet disposition will be sorely missed. The family is comforted by the words of Revelation 21:4 which states, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away." A memorial service will be held and Hennessey Funeral Home on March 21st, at 11:00 AM.
