Carol H. “Myrt” McGee, 95, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026 at her residence. She was born on February 15, 1930 in Roaring Spring, a daughter of the late Charles and Edith (Delozier) Herron. On July 16, 1948, in Winchester, VA she married Dean McGee and he preceded her in death on November 20, 2007. She is survived by four children: Jeff, Kim, Steve, and Dina; and four grandchildren: Kelly and her spouse Brandon Perrote, Sean, Connor, and Zoe. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. McGee, and three brothers: Donald, Robert, and Fred (Pauline).

The McGees moved to Bedford from Roaring Spring in 1970. Myrt worked as a meat wrapper and cashier at the A&P grocery store through the 1970’s until their closure; always saying that she met everyone in Bedford through this job. She then worked at Giant Eagle until the early 1990’s.

Many people remembered Myrt as a fierce Bedford Bison football fan, where she rang her cowbell for 24 years. Myrt was a generous, funny, and independent mother and grandmother. She loved her back porch and the piece of ground beside it. Her kitchen table always had people sitting around it, and they were always fed. The best way to honor Myrt is to have a good meal, sit on your porch, or take a swim with your favorite people.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Stan Howes officiating. Burial will be private at Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home and on Thursday one hour prior to the service.
