Carol Frances Hinterman was born in Flint, MI, on January 31, 1938, the daughter of the late Arnold and Dorothy (Howell) Hinterman. She married Thomas Mullally on February 13, 1960, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint, MI. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2022. During their 62 years of marriage, they formed a legacy of family and devout Catholic faith. They viewed each of their 10 children as a gift from God. Together, they raised them with deep faith, guiding each through parochial school and encouraging them on to college. They instilled values of resilience, joy, and generosity in them that remain their enduring legacy.
Carol's life was a testament to faith, love, and grace. From her earliest days, Carol found joy in caring for others. Growing up in a close-knit family, she delighted in tending to the home, a role that foreshadowed her lifelong devotion to family. She also possessed a keen eye for fashion, eagerly following the latest styles and curating a cherished collection of purses that reflected her taste and sophistication. Her kind temperament was beyond compare. With her gentle smile and friendly demeanor, she touched everyone she met with her warmth and compassion.
Carol's commitment to education and service shone brightly. In 1956, she attended the St. Louis School of Music, where she earned her certification as a piano teacher. Her musical skills brought a gentle harmony to the home for her children. Later, she became a certified insurance agent, partnering seamlessly with her beloved husband, Thomas. Together, they built a legacy of Catholic devotion and a lifetime of partnership under God.
Carol is survived by her children, Dr. Thomas (Dr. Loretta) Mullally, Mary Mullally, Christine Mullally, Dr. John (Beth) Mullally, Mark (Victoria) Mullally, Elizabeth (Mike) Gildner, Lisa (Tommy) Willard, Michelle Mullally and Dr. Timothy (Dr. Lisa) Mullally; 33 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Debe) Hinterman, Dan Hinterman, Jack (Carol) Hinterman; sister, Susan Williams; many other loving family members and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Carol was preceded in death by son, Dr. Brian Mullally; brother, Tom (Shirley) Hinterman.
