Carol Moreno Nunez passed away on June 21, 2024, at her home in Lampasas County, Texas. She was born on February 18, 1932, in Kosciusko, Texas to Santos and Rebecca Hernandez Moreno. She was their second child, a brother was born in 1930, and she was eventually the oldest of nine sisters. Her family came to Lampasas County in 1938, first to the Adamsville area. Though the family tried other areas, they settled in Lampasas.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2024. Burial will follow at Kempner Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6 PM at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Third St. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, with visitation to follow.
Carol grew up in Lampasas, Texas. She graduated from G.W. Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas. She entered nursing training as a teenager and upon high school graduation she went to work as a nurse in Houston, Texas, becoming a Registered Nurse.
She had three children with Moses Flores of Granger, Texas. She then married David Nunez, Jr. on May 5, 1964. They were together for over fifty-three years. They had two daughters, bringing the family to five children. Carol worked at St. Joseph Hospital for many years and helped out at other Houston area hospitals. She later worked at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen, Texas.
Carol drew upon her skills as a nurse and volunteered for over sixty years with the American Red Cross. Besides helping after floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes she also assisted at the Pentagon after 9/11 and the West Fertilizer Company explosion aftermath. For several years she assisted locally and at times even arranged assistance from home. She was a lifelong Catholic helping in various ministries at the parishes where she was a member, especially at My Brother's House food pantry at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove, Texas.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Santos and Rebecca; her husband, David Nunez, Jr.; her son, John Flores; her brother, John Moreno; her sisters, Maria Rendon, Cecelia Rivera and Lidia Gomez.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Enayat) Emami of San Diego, California; her son Hector Flores of Lampasas County, Texas; her daughter, Michelle Fajardo of Orlando, Florida; her daughter, Carol known as Tiny, (Chris) Cates of Jacksonville, Florida; her sisters, Rosa (Carlos) Perez of San Angelo, Texas, Helen (Fred) Infante of Angleton, Texas, Mary Ann Aldrich (Roy) of Lampasas, Texas, Becky (Robert) Gonzales of Mission, Texas, Julia (Ysmael) Ramos of San Angelo, Texas; her grandchildren, Ali Emami, Hussein Emami, Michelle Emami, Jason Emami, Farrah (Jonathan) Emami, Ian (Nephtys) Fajardo, Erica Fajardo, Emily (Jai) Fajardo, Michael (girlfriend Haley) Bennett, Jesse (fiancee Shelby) James, Blake (fiancee Jenn) Cates, Ashlyn Cates Hawkins (Herb); her great-grandchildren, Zoe, Caden, Thiago, Thea, Iris Faith; her great-great-grandson, Michael, and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the Heart of Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross.
