Carol Oleferchik Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fredrick Funeral Home on Mar. 8, 2026.
Carol J. Oleferchik, 79, of Huntley, passed away Friday, March 6th, 2026, at Alden Courts of Huntley, surrounded by her family.

She was born September 29th, 1946, the daughter of Harold and Helen (Best) Poile. Carol married Leonard Oleferchik on February 22nd, 1975, in Addison, IL. Carol worked for 12 years at Argonne National Laboratory, where she was an active member of their ski club that traveled far and wide for their sport even to the Rockies. After getting married, she tried to teach Len how to ski, but they soon decided for safety's sake, it was not his cup of tea. In 1977, when she became a mother, Carol gave up her job at Argonne to become a full-time mom and homemaker.

In 1979, Len and Carol decided they would like to raise their family in the slower paced lifestyle of a rural environment. Planning for their children to get a Catholic education, they decided on the Hampshire area, finding a beautiful country property near Burlington. Over the last many years, they have been involved in serving the SCB parish and school in many ways. Carol served as a lunch Mom at the school for a number of years. She also served many years assisting to serve at funeral luncheons. She was an active member of the St. Charles Borromeo Cursillo group for many years, as well as the St. Charles Borromeo Light Of The World group.

Carol loved her family vacations as the boys were growing up, it included two to three trips a year to beautiful Mountain Home, Arkansas where Carol's parents lived after retirement.. as well as a few great trips to Disney World. In more recent years, Carol's travels expanded, going twice to Italy. She also went on a pilgrimage with her sisters-in-law to France and Lourdes. She got to take a river cruise down the Danube, which she really enjoyed. She also loved being a snowbird with Len in Punta Gorda, Florida.

Carol is survived by her husband, Len; her children, Mark (Melissa) Oleferchik, and Andy (Shannon) Oleferchik; her grandchild, Catherine; her cousins, Larry Behrens, and JoFrances King.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Helen Poile.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E Jefferson Ave, Hampshire IL, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a wake service concluding the visitation at 7:45 pm. Visitation for Carol will resume the following day Thursday, March 12th at St Charles Borromeo Church from 9:30 until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery.

Carol was a woman of faith, truly humble. She knew that every good thing in her life was a blessing from above. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carol's name may be made out to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School.
