Born on April 24, 1927, in Lynn, MA, Carol was the daughter of Austin and Blanche (Girardin) Curtis. She was a graduate of Cushing Academy and attended Simmons College. Her love for New Hampshire began in 1941 when she started summering in Alton Bay, a place she cherished and made her permanent home in 1967.
Carol was a devoted mother to her six children: Robert C. Blackstock of Alton, NH; Carol Chamberlain (husband Carl) of Alton, NH; Suzanne Rief (husband John) of New Durham; Stephanie Ayers (husband Robert) of Ossipee, NH; and Bebe Burt (husband Richard) of Wolfeboro, NH. She was predeceased by her son, David C. Blackstock and granddaughter, Rachel Sperandio. Affectionately known as "Nanny," she leaves behind a loving legacy of nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deeply engaged in her community, Carol was a dedicated member and past Worthy Matron of Warren-Alpha Chapter 10, Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Winnipesaukee Chapter, the Community Church of Alton, and its Women’s Christian Fellowship. For many years, she enjoyed the camaraderie of friends at the Alton Senior Center.
Carol’s life was guided by faith, family, and love for her country. She found joy in cooking, knitting, and playing cribbage.
An Order of the Eastern Star funeral service will be held at the Winnipesaukee Masonic Lodge (40 Suncook Valley Road, Alton) on May 17, 2025, at 10:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at the Community Church of Alton (20 Church Street) at 12 PM.
