Jodie Phillips of Waco, Texas, a devoted sister, beloved wife, all-giving mother, loving grandmother, generous aunt, and dear friend, passed away peacefully last week at the age of 77, after bravely fighting a prolonged illness. Beloved to all who knew her, Jodie’s life was marked by inner strength, deep compassion, and a generous spirit.
She was endlessly selfless, always putting others before herself in countless, quiet ways. One of the clearest expressions of her care was her lifelong love for animals—especially cats. Jodie adopted strays, fed cats throughout town, and opened her home to those who had nowhere else to go.
She cherished life’s simple pleasures: a slice of buttered cornbread, a glass of sweet iced tea, telling stories about her mother and daddy, antique hunting, and the gentle company of her animals. Her warmth, kindness, humor, and thoughtfulness will be missed deeply.
Jodie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Franky; sister Sue; brother Bill; son David; grandchildren Brittany and Alexandra; nieces Kim, Kristy, and Martha; nephew Brad; grand-nephew Tanner, grand-nieces Morgan, Reagan, and Kenlie; and many other loving family members and dear friends whose lives she touched. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home.
The family invites donations to a local animal rescue or shelter in her honor—reflecting the care and compassion she gave so freely throughout her life.
