Carol Raef

Carol P. Raef, 98, of Bourbonnais, passed away Monday (Oct. 21, 2024), at Ascension Heritage Village in Kankakee.

She was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Bourbonnais, the daughter of Arcade and Dora LaMontagne Plante.

Carol married Charles Raef on July 3, 1950, at Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bourbonnais. He preceded her in death in 1995.

A devoted mom, grandma and great-grandma, Carol was a blessing to her large and loving family. Carol was a shining example of deep religious faith and perseverance in meeting life's challenges. She supported numerous charities and visited nursing homes, bringing conversation and treats to residents. Carol enjoyed doing needlework and was blessed with a green thumb. She was a dog lover, especially of all things Snoopy.

She was a parishioner of Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, and belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne.

Surviving are two sons, Michael and Jayne Raef, of Bourbonnais, and Mark and Joy Raef, of Martinton; two daughters, Charlotte Raef, of Aurora, and Jean and John Baxter, of Bourbonnais; one sister-in-law, Patricia St. John, of Kankakee; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Joseph; one sister, Josette Quigley; and one daughter, Mary Kent.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Funeral Mass will follow shortly after that at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bourbonnais. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Kankakee.

Memorials may be made to Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church or Bishop McNamara Catholic Schools.
