Carol J Sloan

With profound love and gratitude, we remember the remarkable life of Carol Jean Sloan, who left this earth for her heavenly home on September 5, 2025, in Plano, Texas. She was 66 years old.

Carol was a force of nature — a natural born leader, problem solver, and doer who believed nothing was impossible. If you knew her, she made you believe it too. To meet Carol was to step into a world where anything could be accomplished. She carried endless energy for helping, fixing, and lifting up everyone around her.

Born in the Chicago area to John and Genevieve Pasternock, Carol was the youngest and only daughter among four children, growing up with her brothers Jack, Terry, and Larry. Raised in the Catholic faith, she carried her devotion to God throughout her life and supported her places of worship through fundraising efforts and donations.

Carol’s determination emerged early. She began working at age 13 as an Avon representative, became a bookkeeper at 16, and climbed the business ranks from there. She earned her degree in Business Management and Accounting from DePaul University by attending night classes while working full-time. Her career spanned leadership roles in international marketing, procurement, and management across several companies. Later, she brought these skills to public service as a councilwoman of Shavano Park, Texas, serving her community with dedication and vision.

Beyond professional accomplishments, Carol’s greatest joy was family. She married the love of her life, Roger Sloan, in 1981 after charming him into joining her “bowling team,” which turned out to be just her. From that moment, Roger was smitten, and together they built a life filled with love, adventure, and laughter. Their journey took them from Schaumburg, Illinois, to Salt Lake City, Utah, to Naperville, Illinois, to San Antonio, Texas, and finally Plano—creating lifelong friendships in every city. They skied snowy slopes, cruised lakes, relaxed on sandy beaches, and opened their home for countless celebrations.

Carol was a devoted mother to Kelly and Sarah, always present, whether cheering as a proud “band mom,” planning unforgettable parties, or ensuring her kids had every tool to succeed. She was also a passionate animal lover who viewed her numerous pet dogs as family members.

Cooking was one of Carol’s greatest passions. Known as the “hostess with the mostest”, she was well known for four-course meals and impeccable spreads that turned every gathering into a celebration. Her kitchen brimmed with cookbooks, gadgets, and most importantly, love.

Carol also faced life’s challenges with courage and determination. In recent years, she transformed her health by completely changing her lifestyle, successfully managing her diabetes with little medication—an achievement that reflected her belief that “nothing is impossible.”

Her legacy is one of strength, joy, and love as wife, mother, sister, aunt, godmother, colleague, friend, and community leader.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Roger; her children, Kelly and Sarah; her brothers, Larry, Terry, and Jack; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends. While she will be dearly missed, Carol is reunited in heaven with her parents, friends, family, and beloved dogs, joyfully surrounded by her pack once more.

Two services will be held to honor Carol’s life:

A memorial service to celebrate Carol's life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Allen Family Funeral Options.

A Catholic mass and burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 819 N 16th Ave, Melrose Park, Illinois 60160, followed by burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery 1400 S Wolf Rd, Hillside, Illinois 60162.

Carol’s spirit will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her. She was our powerhouse, our fixer, our joy—she will be deeply missed.
