PIQUA -- Carol E. Vorhees, 88, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 7:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022 at Brookdale of Piqua. She was born October 14, 1933 in Quincy to the late Albert A. and Frances B. (Shroyer) Vonderhuevel. She married Darrell E. "Smokey" Vorhees November 18, 1951 in Sidney; and he preceded her in death February 3, 1999.
Survivors include three sons, Vennard (Melodie) Vorhees of Piqua, Larry (Kristi) Vorhees of Sidney, Fred (Joe) Vorhees of Urbana; one daughter, Peggy (Jan) Snyder of Arcanum; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Marion, Neil; three sisters, Doris Dye, Tina Strasser, Phyllis Schindel; and two sons, Troy Vorhees, and Samuel Vorhees.
Mrs. Vorhees attended Quincy High School through the eleventh grade and graduated from Jackson Center High School. She grew up in Beehive Church in Port Jefferson. She was active with her children in her younger years, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Assistant Leader with the Girl Scouts, a room mother at the schools and was a member of the PTA. She was a nursery assistant at the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, and working puzzles. Additionally, she enjoyed traveling and camping with her late husband.
A service to honor her life will begin at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Mark Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
