Carol Westerman

1927 - 2025

Carol Westerman, 97, of Scottdale, peacefully passed away in her family home on Sept. 30, 2025. She was born Dec. 18, 1927, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late Richard W. Westerman and Charlotte Loucks (Kelly) Westerman of Scottdale. She spent her childhood summers in Scottdale at the family home. She was a graduate of the class of 1945, Highland Park High School (MI). Carol received her BA in Early Childhood Development at Oberlin College (OH), 1950; then her teaching certificate from Wayne State University (MI), 1954; an MA in Elementary Education from the University of New Mexico, 1958; and an MA in Spanish from Trinity College (CT), 1971. Her diverse teaching career started in Puerto Rico. It continued for over 40 years, taking her to Lorraine (OH), Glastonbury (CT), Colombia, Morocco, Spain, Lackland Air Force Base (TX), Vietnam, Penn State (Fayette), Northern Illinois University (DeKalb), Westmoreland Comm College (PA), and TUMC Pre-school (Scottdale). She is survived by her daughter, Paloma, and her husband, Douglas Cramer, of Scottdale; four grandchildren, Crimson Cramer, Evan Wilson, Maia Solomon, and Eli Solomon; son-in-law, Jeffrey Solomon (TX); and sister-in-law, Phyllis Westerman (MI). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard L. Westerman (MI); and her daughter, Marlena C. Solomon (TX). She was a member of Calvin United Presbyterian Church, an avid genealogist, and a Scottdale historian. Carol was an amazing woman who truly led an extraordinary life. A beloved mother and grandmother. A true fount of wisdom. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, with Pastor Len Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery.
