Carole B. Good, 89, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, with her loving family by her side. Though her time on earth has come to a close, her spirit-so full of kindness, joy, and quiet strength-will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
Carole was born on September 25, 1936, in Effingham, Illinois, to Henry and Madeline (Hoffman) Johanns. She grew up in a warm, faith-filled home where family meant everything. From a young age, she was known for her gentle demeanor, her heart for others, and a sense of humor that could ease any tension. These qualities only deepened as she moved through life-shaping her into the extraordinary woman so many came to love and cherish.
In April of 1959, Carole married Robert "Bob" Good, beginning a 55-year journey of partnership, devotion, and unwavering love. Their marriage was one built on mutual respect and affection, and together they raised a family grounded in faith, laughter, and togetherness. Carole and Bob found joy in life's simplest moments-Saturday afternoon football games, evenings by the campfire, spontaneous adventures in their RV, and peaceful winters in Texas with their dear friends Pat and Clay. Carole would laugh as she recounted how she and Pat would head out to shop while Bob and Clay happily fished the day away. It was a rhythm that brought her deep joy and reminded her of the beauty of friendship, nature, and the small pleasures of life.
Carole's greatest role in life, however, was as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She poured her heart into her family. Her children, Robert (Judy), Julie (James), and Richard (Laura), were not just her pride and joy-they were her closest friends and the center of her world. Carole and her daughter Julie shared a particularly special bond-more than mother and daughter, they were best friends, lifelong shopping partners, confidantes, and kindred spirits. Whether it was a quiet conversation over coffee, a shopping trip, or an afternoon spent sitting at Julie's lake house by the fire, those moments were the ones Carole treasured most.
To her grandchildren-Bob (Lisa), Jessica (Jeff),Jimmy (Sidney), and Nicole, Michelle (Kevin) -Carole was a constant source of love and encouragement. She celebrated every milestone, offered gentle advice when asked, and never missed a chance to show how proud she was of them. Her great-grandchildren-Madisyn, Averie, Scarlet, Henry, RJ, and Nate, Julian & Jackson-brought a sparkle to her eye and a renewed energy to her spirit. She adored them, and her face would light up at the mere mention of their names.
Carole's love wasn't limited to her family. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and seen. Whether it was through a kind word, a warm meal, or her radiant smile, she had a gift for comforting those around her. She worked for many years as a teacher's aide, where her caring nature and gentle heart made a lasting impact on the children she worked with. Her dedication to nurturing young minds was rooted in her belief that every child deserved love, attention, and the chance to flourish.
Her faith was the guiding force of her life. A devoted member of St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend, Carole found purpose and peace in her involvement with the parish. She participated in countless church activities, often preparing food for mercy meals and other events, always eager to serve her community however she could. She approached her faith not only as a belief system, but as a way of life-kindness, humility, and generosity were simply who she was.
Carole found joy in life's little rituals. She loved watching Notre Dame football-rooting faithfully for the Irish each season. She had a playful sense of humor and a laugh that was completely contagious-when Carole laughed, everyone around her did too. Her presence was a light in any room: calm, joyful, and welcoming. And always, wherever she went, was her loyal dog, Chico, never far from her side. Their companionship was a sweet reflection of Carole's boundless capacity to love and care.
She also loved gathering with friends and family, especially at Julie's lake house, where evenings were spent by the campfire swapping stories, laughing, and simply being together. Those memories-of fishing trips, starry nights, and heartfelt conversations-will live on in the hearts of her family as some of their most treasured.
Carole's family invites all who knew her to join in honoring her memory by doing what she did best-loving unconditionally, offering a helping hand, and savoring life's quiet joys. In her honor, share a meal with someone you love, volunteer your time, or simply sit under the stars and remember the woman who made the world a gentler place.
Though we mourn the loss of Carole's physical presence, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, deeply loved, and never to be forgotten.
Carole was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob, her parents Henry and Madeline. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with them, free from pain and embraced by the peace she so deeply deserves.
She is survived by her three loving children: Robert (Judy) Good, Julie (James) Schmidt, and Richard (Laura) Good; her grandchildren: Bob (Lisa) Good, Jessica (Jeff) Ferguson, Jimmy (Sydney) Schmidt, Nicole Good and Michelle (Kevin) Domonkos ; and her great-grandchildren: Madisyn, Averie, Scarlet, Henry, RJ, and Nate, Julian & Jackson- each of whom carries a part of her legacy and spirit within them.

A funeral Mass will immediately follow the gathering. Burial will take place privately at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 10776 McKinley Hwy,
