Carole Shaner

Carole Sue Hall Shaner, 81, beloved wife of Earl Wayne Shaner, passed away peacefully, at her residence in Ivy, surrounded by her family, on November 17, 2025.

Sue Shaner was born on October 1, 1944 to Mr. and Mrs. Lester Walker Hall Sr. in Waynesboro, Virginia. She shared her early childhood and young adult years with her parents and seven siblings growing up in Fishersville, Virginia. She graduated from Wilson Memorial High School, and then pursued a career in cosmetology. In July of 1967, she married the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Wayne Shaner.

Alongside her husband, she raised two wonderful sons, and was a full-time mother until she eventually worked as a secretary at St. Mark Lutheran Church of Charlottesville, and as an office coordinator for Augusta Medical Center where she retired at the age of 62.

Throughout her life, Sue was dedicated to her faith in the Lord, her friends and family, her love of reading, Virginia football, and the well-being of her community overall. Sue loved to travel with her family, and was grateful to see multiple corners of the world, including Europe, Australia, and Hawaii.

Sue was a loving, social woman, and cared deeply for everyone who was fortunate enough to be placed in her orbit. She had the unique sensibility and empathy to include everyone in any gathering, be it big or small, and leave you smiling and euphoric with joy. She had the magical touch of bringing peace to everyone who was lucky enough to embrace her presence.

Sue is survived in death by her husband Earl Wayne Shaner of 58 years; her brother Trent Douglas Hall; children Christopher Wayne Shaner and Timothy Andrew Shaner; her daughter-in-law Anna Lee Wood Shaner; her grandchildren Jacob Samuel Shaner and Eli William Shaner; and three great-grandchildren. Sue is preceded in death by her father Lester Walker Hall Sr. and mother Melissa Stogdale Hall; her siblings Constance Margerie Hall Driver, Richard Hall, Lester "Buzz" Walker Hall Jr, Melissa Anne Hall, Thomas Michael Hall, and William Steven Hall.

A memorial service, in Sue's honor and memory, will be held January 17, 2026 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2807 N Augusta St., Staunton, VA 24401, at 11:00 a.m.
