Caroline Eleftheriou
"Loving wife, mother & sister"
Mrs. Caroline (Nicholas) Eleftheriou, 90, of Southington, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 2, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Paul Eleftheriou for over 65 years.
Caroline was born in Tripotama, Kalavryton, Greece, on June 1, 1935, a daughter of the late Haralambos and Georgia (Macris) Nikolakopoulos. She was one of six siblings.
As a teenager, Caroline's mother sent her and her brother John, to live with their uncle in Waterbury, CT, so they may attend school and have a better life. Caroline worked as a seamstress at a local dress factory and sold ice cream part time at Quassy Amusement Park. She was a devout member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Waterbury, where she sang in the choir for several years.
While on a cruise ship sailing the Atlantic Ocean, Caroline met her future husband, Paul. Love at first sight, they eventually married in Greece and had a daughter, Demetra. After returning to the United states, the family created a successful life together in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where Caroline managed their rental properties. They also enjoyed a custom vacation villa they built together in Greece.
Caroline prioritized staying physically active and worked hard all her life. She was dedicated to her family and known for her kind heart, beautiful laugh and delicious home-cooked meals. Her profound faith in God was unwavering throughout her life. Caroline will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Besides her husband Paul of Southington, Caroline leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Dr. Demetra Eleftheriou and her husband Aaron Tinnell of Southington, her sisters, Athanasia Nicholas of Waterbury, and Despina Dassouras of Greece, as well as many nieces and nephews. Caroline was predeceased by her siblings, Polixeni Thanopoulos, Peter Nicholas, and John Nicholas.
Arrangements: A traditional Greek Orthodox Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 937 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Burial will follow at South End Cemetery in Plantsville. Calling hours will be held for Caroline on Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. A traditional Greek Trisigion service will take place Thursday evening at the conclusion of calling hours at 7:00 p.m.
