Obituary of Carolyn Louise Auerbach
Carolyn Louise Auerbach (née Lipp) passed away at the age of 93, one month short of her 94 birthday. Wife of the late Ralph Auerbach, Mother of Marci, Jeff (Terri), Bill (Sue); Bubbie to Josh, Jason (Ali), Michael (Samantha), Chanah/Julie (Pesach), Michelle (Mike), Molly (Daniel), Ben, Rena (Jesse), Zahava, and Matan; Great-grandmother of 20 (and counting); Aunt of many nieces and nephews; Sister of the late Stewart Lipp (Marilyn) and the late Martin Lipp; Sister-in-Law of the late Ruby and Ed Berkowitz and the late Sherry Mendelsberg and the late Joanne Baumgarten.
Born in 1931 to the late Anne and Joe Lipp in Cincinnati, Ohio, she graduated college from Indiana University. She found herself husband-less so set out to work on obtaining her "MRS degree". As told to us by Carolyn, herself. She was a counselor at JCC Ranch Camp in Elbert, CO as the beginning of her communal service outreach work she continued for all of her life. She met her husband and after she became "Mrs. Ralph Auerbach", she continued working, while having three children, as a kindergarten teacher for a number of years and continued her community activism during that time. At a time when women didn't work outside the home, she wanted something more and opened a Jewish gift shop in Cherry Creek with two friends called The Three Mavens. She later partnered with the late Roz Weiss and in 1977 opened Boutique Judaica in the Happy Canyon Shopping Center. At that time, the store was the largest Jewish gift shop between Chicago and Los Angeles. The business thrived for 36 years. The store was very important to the Jewish community and not only did they sell Judaica, but they also connected every shopper with ways to become part of the Jewish community.
In the early 1990's, Carolyn and Ralph and the late Bobbie and Jerry Carr were concerned about hunger in the Jewish community and opened the Kosher Food Pantry which was later (and still to this day) run by Jewish Family Services. In addition, Carolyn was very involved in the original Beth Joseph Congregation and was honored there as well as at the Allied Jewish Federation for all of her hard volunteer work with all ages!
After Ralph died, Carolyn needed something new and she became involved with Shir Hadash at the HEA. She took up African drumming and was a regular drummer with the group. She loved this group, considered them an extension of her family and it completely fulfilled her spiritual needs. Her involvement with this group continued until the last week before her passing.
Carolyn was a legend in the Jewish community. She will be missed by everyone who ever experienced her hospitality and her famous chocolate chip cookies.
The family wants to thank her wonderful care givers over the past few years at Morningstar, Kavod, and especially everyone on the memory care unit at HighPointe Assisted Living/Memory Care.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, November 10 at Rose Hill Cemetery at 1 PM. Livestream will be available on the Feldman Mortuary You Tube channel.
Contributions in Carolyn's name may be made to the Weinberg Food Pantry at Jewish Family Services, Shir Hadash c/o Hebrew Educational Alliance, the Auerbach Family Children's Fund used for Special Education at Denver Jewish Day School, or Yachad.
