Carolyn Buxton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Blake Funeral Home - Loogootee on Nov. 24, 2025.
Carolyn "Carol" Jane Buxton, 76, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away on Saturday November 22, 2025.

She was born on December 30, 1948, to Hobert and Eudell (Howell) Bowman.

Carol married Charles F. Buxton on December 12, 1968. Carol was a devoted Catholic whose faith guided every step of her life. She prayed the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and the Holy Face Chaplet every single day, finding comfort, strength, and purpose in her devotion. Even during her hospital stays, Carol's faith never wavered-she would lovingly start prayer groups with hospital staff, offering hope and companionship through shared prayer.

Carol had a natural gift for caring for others. As one of 12 children, her brothers and sisters often said she was like a second mother to them-steady, nurturing, and always ready with a helping hand. She carried that same love into her own home as an excellent wife, devoted to cooking, cleaning, and creating a warm, welcoming place for her family.

Of all the blessings in her life, her family-especially her grandchildren-meant the very most to her. She cherished every moment with them, celebrating their milestones, supporting their paths, and praying faithfully for each one.

Carol found peace in simple, sacred routines. She loved walking through the cemetery, praying the Rosary for those who had passed away or for anyone who came to her mind and heart. Every morning, she enjoyed watching EWTN with Chuck, sharing quiet moments of faith and reflection together.

Carol lived a life of prayer, love, and service. Her gentle presence, deep faith, and unwavering devotion to her family will be forever treasured by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Eudell Bowman, her maternal grandparents, Coleman and Rosa Howell, Paternal grandparents, Green and Susie Bowman, her siblings, Judith Bailey, Johnnie Bowman, and Michael Bowman.

Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles "Chuck" Buxton of Loogootee, children, Charles H. (Mya) Buxton of Duluth, Georgia, Colette (Scott) Wisler of Highland, Indiana, grandchildren, Meghan Buxton of Salt Lake City, Utah, Abigail Buxton Cleveland, Tennessee, Ethan Wisler Highland, Indiana, Landon Wisler of Highland, Indiana, sisters, Billie (Jack) Sergent of Danville, Kentucky, Marilyn Brandow of Waterford, Michigan, Kathy Bowman of Richmond, Indiana, Susan (Doug) Dunaway Beattyville, Kentucky, brothers, Steve Bowman of Beattyville, Kentucky, Darrel Bowman of Beattyville, Kentucky, Anthony (Cathy) Bowman Beattyville, Kentucky, Link Bowman of South Lebanon, Ohio, brother- in- law, Harold Bailey of Beattyville, Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 A.M on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
