Carolyn Nolan Deliman, 89, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, with her son, Timothy, at her side. Born on May 12, 1936 in West Point Mississippi, Carolyn was the eldest daughter of Arvie Lee (Nation) and Howard Mayfield Nolan, and sister to Cecil and Sharon. Carolyn grew up on a small farm in Tibbee, Mississippi where she was active in 4-H and many rural activities. Carolyn's family briefly relocated to Cleveland, Ohio during World War II, before returning to Mississippi. Upon graduation from West Point High School in 1954, Carolyn was recruited by the FBI to work as a secretary in Washington D.C. Carolyn very much enjoyed the work but left the Bureau in 1958 to get married.
Carolyn soon found her greatest joy in life, being a mother to Michael (1960), Timothy (1961), and Patrick (1962). Carolyn made growing up fun for three very energetic and mischievous young boys, teaching them important life lessons along the way. After her sons had graduated from high school, Carolyn obtained a paralegal degree from George Washington University. In addition to her work as a paralegal, Carolyn worked at Fairfax City Hall. In later years, Carolyn's three sons took her to London, England to celebrate her 75th birthday. She enjoyed seeing the various sights, having afternoon tea, and attending the Theatre, enjoying a wonderful performance of Les Miserables.
Carolyn was a fighter, defeating both colon cancer and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Although Carolyn had a difficult life in many respects, she garnered strength from the Bible and her Christian Faith. Pieces of paper with various scripture verses dotted any home where she resided. Carolyn lived a Christian life, serving as an example for her children and others. For leisure, Carolyn enjoyed gardening, spending many hours beautifying the yard of any place she lived. Carolyn also loved writing poetry and short stories.
Carolyn is survived by her three sons: Michael Deliman (Donna), of Murrieta, CA; Timothy Deliman, of Gainesville, VA; and Patrick Deliman (Ginny) of Madison, MS. Carolyn is also survived by a sister, Cecil Mallery, two grandsons, Christopher Deliman and Perry Deliman, two great-granddaughters, Violet and Rose, numerous nephews and nieces, and a host of wonderful friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and a beloved sister, Sharon Campbell.
