Carolyn Kay (Pieters) Jorgensen was born September 17, 1944, in Camden, New Jersey to Edward Pieters and Arlett (Drawbaugh) Pieters. Arlett passed away when Carolyn was very young, and after her father married Joan Mahoney Carolyn and her younger brother Edward had a new mom to love and care for them.
After Carolyn graduated from St. Bonaventure School in Columbus with the class of ‘62 she went to nursing school in Colorado and became a registered nurse. She served for many years with the Visiting Nurse Association in Omaha and was still with the organization when she retired.
Carolyn married William Jorgensen on June 6, 1980, in Omaha and they made the city their home. They had many happy years together until Bill’s passing in 2019. Carolyn lived in Omaha for a while longer until moving to Auburn, Nebraska. She belonged to the Nebraska City Church of Christ while living in Auburn.
An avid reader, Carolyn also loved working with her hands quilting, sewing, and cross stitching. She made many Afghans for the new babies in the family and never missed a family birthday with a card. She loved spending time with family, and they all knew her as a good card player! Carolyn followed sports of all types, especially her favorites: the Royals, Huskers, and Blue Jays. She and Bill even attended a Super Bowl in New Orleans.
On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, just one day after celebrating her 80th birthday with family, Carolyn was rushed to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska, where she passed away. In addition to her husband Bill and her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters Kathy Zegers, Shirley Bonk, and Linda Bernt, and her brother Dan Pieters.
Carolyn is fondly remembered by her stepdaughters Kim and Kelly; siblings Edward (Renae) Pieters of Newtown Square, PA; Mary (Terry) Hollmann of Columbus; Vicky Jones of Norfolk, Dave (Beth) Pieters of Auburn, Theresa (John) Lindinger of Auburn; many, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be Friday, September 27, 1:00 p.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Family will greet friends ½ hour prior to the service. Burial of Carolyn’s cremated remains will be later at Sheridan West Cemetery near Auburn.
