Carolyn Clark Matthews went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at her home in Florence, MS. She was 89 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Florence, MS. Interment will follow the graveside service.
Carolyn was born on November 15, 1934, to W. Earl Clark and Lois Burrow Clark in Jackson, MS. She has lived in Florence since 1965. She was a graduate of Central High School. Class of “1952”. She graduated from MS Baptist School of Nursing in Jackson, MS. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing with emphasis on Healthcare Administration from Saint Joseph’s College in Windam, Maine. In her early years she attended First Baptist Church of Jackson, but in later years attended Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Florence. Carolyn was a Registered Nurse for many years. She retired from the Mississippi State Department of Health in 1994 as the Director/Administrator of the Division of Home Health. She also took care of many friends throughout the years on Henry Byrd Road in Florence, MS. She has resided at 437 Henry Byrd Road for the last 40 + years. Her hobbies were collecting post cards and Nurse figurines. She also enjoyed Astronomy!
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lois Clark; three brothers, Benji Clark, Tim Clark and David Clark; son, Bradley Clark Matthews; and great granddaughter, Gracie Tackett. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Gregg Barrow (Don) of Florence and her granddaughter Stephany Tackett of Clearwater, Florida, Stephany’s children, Hailey Gregg of Tampa, Florida, Katelyn Tackett and Allison Tackett of Clearwater, Florida. Carolyn is also survived by her son; Ben Matthews of Atlanta, Georgia; Ben’s children, Nicole Matthews of Florence, MS and Hannah Matthews of Atlanta, Georgia and Brad Matthews children, Austin Matthews, Megan Matthews, and Brandon Matthews of Florence, MS.
