Princeton - Carolyn Mae McCance, lovingly known as "Tuff" by those who knew her best, passed away on October 14, 2025 surrounded by family. Born in Quincy, Illinois on January 20, 1948, to the late Merritt Richard and Norma Jane (Bayles) Yelton, Carolyn lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep devotion to her family.
A 1966 graduate of Bardolph High School, Carolyn went on to marry the love of her life, Gerald Kent McCance, on June 12, 1970. Together they built a beautiful life and shared countless adventures.
In her younger years, Carolyn worked for Vaughn & Bushnell. After moving to Princeton in 1982, she began her long and dedicated career at Jostens which is now MTM, where she worked from 1984 until her retirement in 2021.
Carolyn had a heart as big as her smile. She loved horses, scenic motorcycle trips with her family, and spending time with those she loved most. Her happiest moments were watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their events, or catching up with her friends over lunch with "the girls."
She is survived by her two daughters: Lisa (James) Boyd of Princeton, IL, and Mary "Libby" McCance-Hackney of Eureka, IL; ten grandchildren: Megan (Justin) Zirbes, Alexis Fox, Mason McCance, Kandi (David) Baker, Abram McCance-Hackney, Norah McCance-Hackney, Shandi Boyd, Charisma Boyd, James Boyd Jr., and Vinnie Boyd; and seven great-grandchildren: Jace Franklin, Dante Baker, Millie Zirbes, Rita, Remi and Renegade Carter, and Elijah Boyd.
Also surviving are her siblings: Bonnie Marshall, Jane (Don) Westermeyer, Barb Knell, Russell Aaron "Butch" (Teri) Yelton, and Ina (Mike) Hammond; and sisters-in-law: Peggy Kirby, Glenna Emmert, Janet Draughan, and Robin Ebbert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Gerald, sister Nina Mossagie, niece Jodi Yelton, and brothers-in-law Dave Marshall, Donald Waller, Jack Kirby, Dean Ebbert, and Harv Draughan.
Carolyn also held a special love for her four loyal dogs - Mandy, Otis, Milo, and Lola - who brought her endless joy through the years.
