A Life Dedicated to Service
C.R.'s spirit of giving was cultivated early by her foster parents generosity and flourished throughout her life. Her incredible strength and determination were evident in all she did, extending even to the world of athletics, where she was the power weight champion of her division in 1965. Her spirit of giving was most famously on display through her unique and heartfelt public service. She was a regular, much-anticipated visitor at the local Children's Hospital, where she spread cheer by transforming herself into beloved figures, including a Santa Claus, Clowns and the Easter Bunny. During these visits, she never arrived empty-handed, always bringing gifts and a bright smile to lift the spirits of the young patients.
Her compassion extended far beyond the hospital walls. C.R. frequently visited low-income areas, where she would open the trunk of her car-affectionately known as the "magic trunk"-filled with stuffed animals and other gifts, passing them out to children and lighting up their day with a spontaneous act of kindness. She also channeled her energy into organizing and performing in local variety shows to raise money and collect food for the Cincinnati Freestore Foodbank, a tireless effort fueled by her commitment to local families.
Professional Excellence and Community Leadership
For many years, C.R. was a dedicated employee at General Electric (GE). While there, her exceptional commitment to public service did not go unnoticed, and she was the proud recipient of the prestigious Gerald L. Philippe Award.
She leveraged her position and her reputation for good to orchestrate major charitable efforts within GE. She was instrumental in collecting vast amounts of food, clothing, and money from her colleagues. Her co-workers were always willing to contribute, inspired by her passion and the tangible good they saw her accomplishing in the community. As her friends knew, if C.R. had an extra dollar, it was invariably spent on a child or someone struggling.
Family and Foundational Values
C.R. credited her deep-rooted altruism and generosity to the values instilled in her by her own foster parents. Following their powerful example, she opened her own heart and home to children in need, raising a remarkable 11 foster children over the years. Her capacity for unconditional love was truly limitless.
She taught everyone who knew her that the greatest treasures in life are the moments we share and the help we extend to others. She will be deeply missed by her foster children, her family, her friends, and the countless members of the community whose lives she enriched.
