Carolyn S Quist

A Life of Creativity, Courage, and Joy

Murray, UT - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Carolyn Stirling Quist, on 31 October 2025. Born in Salt Lake City Utah to John Dunn and Ethel Phillips Stirling; 14 June 1939.

Carolyn lived a life of extraordinary creativity, determination and devotion to the Lord, inspiring all who knew her as she transformed life's challenges into opportunities for growth.

Polio presented lifelong obstacles and challenges throughout her life, Carolyn's wonderful spirit refused to be diminished. From childhood, she embraced life with remarkable enthusiasm. Her mother, Ethel, recognized and nurtured Carolyn's vibrant nature through horseback riding, bicycle riding, art lessons, porcelain doll classes, and enrollment in an accordion band, among many other pursuits. This early foundation sparked a lifelong passion for creative discovery that would define Carolyn's journey and inspire everyone around her.

In 1958, Carolyn met Alfred Quist at a local gas station where his playful winks while washing her windshield sparked a romance that would flourish for 66 beautiful years of marriage. Alfred and Carolyn were married In The Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Together, they raised four children: Sherry Winger, (Mike) Alfred D. Quist, (Sherie) Maureen Baugh, (Mark) and Stirling C. Quist, (Cheryl) all of whom survive her, along with Her 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother John Stirling, and her sisters Marie English and Virginia Wirthlin. Her Eternal husband Alfred also survives her.

Carolyn will be remembered for her extraordinary artistic talents and generous heart. Her beautiful oil paintings captured the world's beauty with skilled brushstrokes, while her intricate porcelain dolls, adorned with delicate hand-set porcelain lace, showcased her meticulous craftsmanship. Her handcrafted glass jewelry pendants became treasured gifts that she freely shared with many. But perhaps most remarkably, Carolyn became a beloved mentor and teacher, generously sharing her knowledge of crafting with countless students, friends and ward members who sought to learn from her experience.

Those who knew Carolyn will forever remember her infectious passionate laugh, her great sense of humor, and the constant sparkle in her eyes. She possessed an extraordinary zest for life that refused to be dimmed by health challenges, teaching all of us that obstacles need not define us-rather, it is how we choose to meet them that creates a life truly well-lived.

Carolyn's legacy lives on not only in the beautiful art she created, but in the lives she touched through her teaching, her many church callings, her unwavering optimism, and her remarkable example of finding joy and purpose in every day. Her creative spirit, her generous heart, and her triumphant approach to life's challenges will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Carolyn has been my friend, sister, and mother for over 40 years. I've never known anyone like her. She taught me how to be a better mother and Grandmother. Her love was boundless, she would love anyone within her circle of love.
Carolyn loved the Lord with all her heart and she taught me to love and invite Him into my life. She has been one of the great blessings in my life. I know she wanted to return home, and now she has. I wish I'd had more time with her, but we will see each other again one day. Love you forever.

I loved Carolyn so much! So many memories with her when I was growing up. She lived a long life I think partly because of how well Alf took care of her. I love those two. Like another set of grandparents to us kids. She really was such a special person in so many ways.

sweet Carolyn, one of my best friends through high school, just like a great sister. Her cousins Linda and Vickie were all such good friends in those days. Rest in peace, dear friend (Stirl,as I called her), you were really special.
