Carolyn (Michalec) Rubner, 64, of Newhall, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at The University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. Celebration of Life: 3 – 7 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2025, with sharing time to begin at 7 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Carolyn was born April 12, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Franklin Michalec and Rojean (Pelz) Spore. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1979. Carolyn was united in marriage to Randy Rubner on October 26, 2007. She worked for Square D for 20 years and later at Terex for 10 years before she retired. Carolyn loved hunting mushrooms and asparagus. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Carolyn liked spending time at the casino, going on cruises, and doing yardwork around her home. Most of all, she loved the time she spent with her family, grandchildren, and her brother.
Survivors include her children, Josh (Dana) Marble and their children, Jermy, Matt, and Lainey; D.D. (Melissa) Rizzio and their child, Eli; Sheena Rizzio and her children, Aaragorn, Faramir, and Merida; Destinee “Lucy” (Andy) Jennings and their children, Bennett and Mya; and Jordan Rizzio; siblings, Franklin (Tracey) Michalec, Stephen (Tammy) Michalec, Mark (Amy) Michalec, Lonnie (Kathy Staack) Michalec, and Troy (Lisa) Michalec; her dog, Daphne; a large extended family; and her children’s father, David Rizzio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and stepfather, Myron Spore.
