Carolyn H. Shumpert, born February 18, 1942, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 07, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband Donnie C. Shumpert of 60 years, and her Parents Willie A. Hembree and Iris V. Hembree. She is survived by her sons David C. Shumpert, and Dwane (Jennie) Shumpert, all of West Columbia SC. Her sisters Andrea Bowers of Lexington and Janice Schofield of West Columbia. Seven grandchildren, Patrick, Melissa, Brittany, Valerie, David Jr., Christan, and Kimberly. Thirteen great grandchildren, her Brother and Sister-n-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn graduated from Brooklyn-Cayce High School in 1961. She retired from Nelson Mullins, Riley, and Scarborough where she worked as a Hospitality Coordinator. She had a love for knitting, sewing, (quilting) and crocheting as well as breeding and showing dogs where she participated in dog show competitions with her prize possession, Tank. But more than that she loved her family, her church family, and most importantly serving the Lord. In her later days, Carolyn was instrumental in getting the food pantry at Laurel Baptist Church up and running full force to serve those in need in our community. Carolyn always met everyone with a warm, friendly smile and a welcoming embrace and was eager to share her sweet hospitality. She was the peace that held her family together. A strong sacrificial mother, honorable wife and a friend to all.
A visitation will be held at Laurel Baptist Church on 2250 Pine St, West Columbia, SC 29170 from 1:30pm to 2:30pm on November 16, 2025. A memorial service will follow.
