Carolyn A. Solt

Amanda Carolyn Ann Solt, 84, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio. She spent her final moments surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 18, 1941, in Sabina, Ohio, she was the only child of the late George W. and Edith (Kay) Martin. When she was six weeks old, the family moved back to Fairfield County, where she resided for the rest of her life. A graduate of Amanda High School class of 1959, she enjoyed band, where she played clarinet and was a majorette. On Christmas Eve in 1961, she married Dale Solt, her classmate and friend since first grade. Their 63-year marriage is a testament to their enduring love and devotion. They enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 state capitals, countless quilt shops, and tractor shows.

She obtained her degree in education from Ohio University in 1962, and she remained lifelong friends with her college roommate, Joanne King-Wardell. Carolyn taught for over 30 years at Amanda-Clearcreek Elementary, teaching remedial reading, second grade, and fourth grade. After retirement, she carried her love of teaching and reading forward, serving as a substitute teacher for 15 years. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa international honorary organization of women educators.

A talented seamstress throughout her life, she made her own wedding gown, dresses for her girls, and enjoyed teaching others her skills. After retirement, Carolyn joined the Goodtime Quilters Guild, where she earned the title of Master quilter. Quilting became her passion, a source of great joy and many friendships. Her entire family enjoyed receiving her beautifully handcrafted quilts and gifts. Carolyn took great pride in her collections, particularly her favorites, which included milk glass, corn-themed items, and rocking chairs. She enjoyed decorating her house for every holiday, with Christmas being her favorite. Carolyn also gave her time and talents serving as a 4-H advisor as well as a member of the Pumpkin Show Arts & Crafts Committee. She was also an active member of Ohio Child Conservation League, the Farm Bureau Council, and the United Methodist Church in Circleville, Ohio.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dale, of 63 years, daughters Beth (Jim) Cottrell, Barbara (John) Andermatt, Laura (David) Steele, grandchildren Dale (Gwen MacDonald) Cottrell, Tyson (Abby) Cottrell, David "D.J." (Emily) Steele, Sue Anne "Sam" (Shannon) Steele, Alyssa Steele, Eugene "Andy" Andermatt, beloved great grandchildren David, Emmett, and Dawson Steele, as well as many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Edith Martin, in-laws Frederick and Mildred Solt, brother-in-law Harold Solt, stepmother Stella Martin, and other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 5-7 pm on Friday, November 7th and will also welcome visitors for one hour prior to funeral services, which are set to take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 8th, 2025 at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, located at 111 W. Main St., Amanda, Ohio, Pastor Marie Smith, officating. Interment will follow at Amanda Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Carolyn's wish was that her friends and family buy themselves or a loved one a flower in her remembrance. The family would also like to extend Carolyn's passion for teaching reading to young kids by collecting donations to purchase books in her honor for students at the Amanda Primary school.
