Carolyn Gail Thien Linn, age 89, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, Indiana.
Gail was born December 20, 1935, to Edward B. and Marguerite P. Stanton Thien Sr.. She attended Maryville College in St. Louis where she studied physics before marrying Ed Linn. Carolyn spent much of her life supporting his Air Force career and being a loving mother to her children. She enjoyed math and numbers, so she gained certification as a tax preparer and enjoyed a 30+ year career in that field before retiring at age 79. Gail was devoted to her faith and her church and gave selflessly to both over the course of her life. She enjoyed being Sacristan and helping with the annual St. Dominic's Parish rummage sale in Breese, Illinois. Gail was an avid reader and amassed a large home library over the years. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, swimming, baking, and making wonderful meals for her family. A family favorite was her snowball cookies which she faithfully baked each Christmas and sent to all her children. Gail was generous to all those she encountered, and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends she had over the years.
Survivors include her children, Diane (Tom) Luken, Stephen (Anzhela) Linn, Therese (Gary) Hetland, David Linn, and Mary (Bob) Langhill; grandchildren, Christopher Luken, Brandon Luken, Bridgette Linn, Conner Linn, Tiffany (Joel Eberhart) Hetland, Amanda (James) Pridmore, Wade Hetland, and Alexis Langill; great grandchildren, Brielle, Eva, and Haleigh Pridmore; brother, Edward B. Thien Jr.; and sister, Mary Lynne Thien, both of St. Louis, Missouri; nephew, Brad (Kenneth McLaughlin) Thien, as well as many other nieces; nephews; and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Edward Martin Linn; parents; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Thien Jr.
Liturgy of Christian Burial for Carolyn Gail Thien Linn will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 235 South 5th Street, Richmond, Indiana. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Andersonville National Cemetery in Georgia.
