Carolyn Sue Thornburg

Carolyn Sue Thornburg Muscle Shoals, AL Carolyn Sue Thornburg, age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7, 2025. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, November 10, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Elder Gary Smith will be officiating. Interment will follow in Harris Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Thornburg was born in on January 2, 1955, to the late Walter Eugene and Ruby (nee Patrick) Pounders. A native of the Shoals area, Mrs. Thornburg was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a devoted Christian, serving and worshipping at Second Creek Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thornburg was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Pounders. Those left to mourn her the most include her husband, Douglas N. Thornburg Sr.; son, Douglas N. Thornburg Jr.; grandchildren, Braxton Thornburg, Tynslee Thornburg, and Alexis Thornburg; step-grandchildren, Hagen Durham, Preston Durham, Jaylen Durham, and Mayson Durham; brothers, Stephen Pounders and Anthony Pounders; nephew, Richard Pounders; other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers include Richard Pounders, Michael Clement, Christopher Clement, Joe Clement, Douglas Thornburg Jr., and Hagen Durham. Robert Hargett will serve as an honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, stjude.org/donate.
