Age 79 of Monroeville went to heaven on Saturday, May 8, 2021. She was born in McKeesport on July 16, 1941. Daughter of the late John B. and Anna C. Peterson Wood; mother to Karen (Rich) Newpol; grandmother to Amanda Newpol, Tyler Newpol, and Adam Newpol; sister of the late Audrey (James) Leriotis; aunt to Tim Leriotis, Todd Leriotis, and Tina (Tom) Halligan; great aunt to Theo (Catina) Leriotis, Elysse (Brian) Hilderbrand, and T.J. Halligan; sister to Robert (Nancy) Wood; aunt to Stacy (Doug) Schroeder and Deana (Jeff) Von Almen; great aunt to Lauren (Adam) Kesler, Bob (Kate) Schroeder, Samantha (Matt) Turner, and Paige Von Almen; great-great aunt to Lia Schroeder and Caroline Jane Kesler; sister of the late Dorothy (Nelson) Hitchens; aunt to Cheryl (Frank Bohm) Hitchens, Craig Hitchens, and Chris (Denise) Hitchens; great aunt to Scott (Holly) Hitchens, Andrew Hitchens, Melissa (Troy) Rollinson, and Nathan Liddell; great-great aunt to Levi Rollinson; best friend and sorority sister to Ann Stinson. Carolyn graduated from McKeesport High School in 1959, and from Slippery Rock State College with a Bachelor of Science in 1963 and a Masters of Education in 1970. Carolyn spent 35 years impacting young lives as a third, fourth and sometimes a fifth grade teacher at Evergreen Elementary School. She retired from Gateway School District in 1998 at age 57 to play with her grandchildren. Carolyn was a dedicated member of the Monroeville Assembly of God where she volunteered by working in the food pantry. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, but she loved children and animals the best. A visitation for friends and family will be Sunday, May 16th from 6-8 p.m. and Monday, May 17th from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 12 Noon at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). Per CDC guidelines, masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Interment will follow at Plum Creek Cemetery.
