Caron Jean Story, of O Fallon, MO, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the age of 68. Beloved wife of 44 years to Steven Story; cherished daughter of Elizabeth and Willis Gerdiman; devoted mother to Jessica (Kyle) Noonan and Ross (Laura) Story; loving grandmother of Gwen Story, Liam Noonan, and Finn Noonan; dear sister of Don Gerdiman; Caron is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Caron met Steve while he was serving in the United States Navy. They married in 1976 and immediately set off on their first adventure, moving to Jacksonville, Florida. They got a dog, started a family, and built their new life together. They enjoyed many shared pastimes together such as antiquing, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. Later in life, they would have many overseas travel adventures.
Upon returning to St. Charles, Caron took every opportunity to support her kids. She was a scout leader for her daughter, a den mother for her son, and a room mother for classroom parties. Eventually she went back to work and enjoyed many years working alongside her mother Elizabeth as a legal secretary for attorney Lester Goldman.
In 2009, Caron and Steve moved to O’Fallon, Missouri to retire at the home we lovingly refer to as the “Story Nature Preserve”. Their home was the center stage for many celebrations and gatherings. Caron took such joy in planning parties, preparing fantastic meals, and celebrations with loved ones. She adored her grandchildren and was the best darned MawMaw anyone could hope for. Her thoughtfulness and love were felt by everyone lucky enough to know her.
Caron’s strong faith carried throughout life. She continually showed unimaginable strength, resilience, and positivity even during her long battle with cancer. She is an inspiration. We are thankful to know that she is at peace with God and her loved ones.
