Carrie "Jean" Waddell Massingille, 90, of Hartsville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Lebanon, Tennessee. Born January 16, 1935, in Celina, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Chatt Waddell and Ruthie Belle Garrett Coffey. She radiated love and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A devoted mother, Jean exemplified what it meant to nurture and support a family. Her love for her children was unwavering, and she dedicated her life to ensuring their happiness and well-being. Described by those who knew her as the most amazing mother one could ask for, Jean's devotion was evident in every aspect of her life.

Deeply rooted in her Christian faith, Jean lived her life as a testament to her beliefs. She approached each day with a positive spirit, never complaining and always finding the good in every situation. Her genuine warmth extended to all, as she never met a stranger, embracing each person she encountered with an open heart. Friends and family will remember her for her unwavering optimism and her ability to uplift others with her kind words. Never one to speak negatively about anyone, Jean’s grace and compassion made her unforgettable.

Beyond her role as a mother and her Christian faith, Jean had a deep love for nature, particularly reflected in her passion for tending to her flower garden. She had a remarkable green thumb, which allowed her to cultivate beauty in her surroundings and share her love of flowers with those around her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son James E. Massingille, and her husband of 73 years James H. Massingille.

She is survived by her children Margaret Casteel, Elizabeth Burgett, Aaron Massingille, Bruce Massingille, Jerry Massingille, and Shelia Massingille. She cherished her grandchildren, Bridgett Burgett, Rachel Casteel, Jonathan (Samantha) Burgett, Gary Massingille, Crystal Wilson, Natasha Collier, and Kayla Roberts. In addition, Jean took great pride in her great-grandchildren: Martyna, Jason, Rylan, Gavin, Michael, Jonathan, Destiny, Abby, Allisa, Mark, Brianna, Jayden, Jaycee, Austin, and Katie, along with her great-great-grandchildren, Hazel, Stella, and Sierra.

Jean's legacy will be celebrated during visitation services on Wednesday, August 13, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Doyle Farris will follow on Thursday, August 14, at 1:00 PM, concluding with entombment at Sumner Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Bridgett Burgett, Martyna Ayala, Jason Presley, Jerry Massingille, Michael Tuck, and Jonathan Burgett.

As we bid farewell to Carrie "Jean" Massingille, we honor her life, her unwavering spirit, and the extraordinary love she shared with her family and friends. She will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
