Carrie Sanes was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on August 28,1947 to Frank Sanes Sr. and Margie Russell Sanes. She was the fifth of nine children who grew up in a rural community called Number Nine. Sharecropping with the family was hard work, but a fulfilling life. When Carrie reflected on her family's closeness, she appreciated her humble beginnings.

 After graduating from Harrison High School in 1966, her brother Ellie just happened to ask their brother Alford if Carrie wanted to come to Washington D.C too. While Carrie was thinking, her mother looked at her and said "you can borrow my suitcase". The decision was made, she got on the bus with Alford and joined Ellie in DC. Soon after arriving, she started working as an Operator for the C&P telephone company. She held a variety of positions and received numerous awards over her 30 years of service, ending her career as a Service Coordinator with Lucent technologies when she retired in 1997.

 Nineteen seventy was a life changing year. First, Carrie was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Tonya. Then she was introduced to studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. Soon after, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and on September 21,1974, she was baptized.

 Carrie joyfully served her God, Jehovah. She faithfully studied her bible. Her family knew she was the one to ask if there was ever a scripture they couldn't remember. Spending time in field service brought her happiness. Her love of the ministry led her to many lifelong friendships and special bonds with those she introduced to the truth.

With many members of the family relocating to the DC area the bond remained strong and gatherings were a regular occurance. There were cookouts and card parties complete with a championship trophy! Carrie loved spending time with her family and friends. Her cooking was delicious and the question was often "Is Aunt Carrie making macaroni and cheese?" or "Did Sister Sanes make her macaroni and cheese?" And don't forget her greens. Regardless of the function, you weren't going to leave hungry, and you were going to leave with a plate.

Carrie had a love of travel. Regular summer road trips to Arkansas for family reunions. Stopping in St. Louis to visit her sister and nephews. At one time camp/cookouts in Indian Acres were fun for everyone. Eventually, cruises became her favorite pastime. Visiting islands throughout the Caribbean including the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the Virgin Islands. Carrie enjoyed seeing the world.

In a room of loud voices, Carrie, who may have been quiet, was always listening. Her calm demeanor attracted those who needed a confidant or even just a listening ear. Her patience and gentle smile always made people feel comfortable and welcome.

One of her greatest joys was her beloved granddaughter, Jasmine. They shared an affinity for buffets, watching T.V shows and a dislike of their twin "juicy" cheeks. One didn't like to smile because of them and the other didn't like

Beginning in 2016 life took another turn as Carrie was diagnosed with cancer. Battling the illness she kept up her ministry witnessing to her caregivers and health aids. She kept on enjoying life with frequent visits and phone calls from her family and friends. As a young girl, Carrie loved sports and would brag about how fast she could run and as her declining health began to limit her mobility you could find her at home watching almost any sport on TV, especially basketball. Music also continued to brighten her days as she and her brothers and sisters would listen to all kinds of music, watch concerts on Youtube. Singing along with the Kingdom melodies - especially the original songs also lifted her spirits. Whenever Carrie was asked how she was doing or holding up, she would mention a scripture she gained strength from. Isaiah 41:10 " Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes I will help you."

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, Carrie fell asleep in death with her loving daughter Tonya and sister Ruthie by her side. She is preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers Frank Jr., Ellie, Alford, and Ronnie. She is survived by her daughter Tonya and granddaughter Jasmine, sisters Marie Sanes Huddleston of Illinois, Ruthie Sanes and Denise Sanes of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and brother Larry Sanes Sr., of Lanham, Maryland, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and life long friends.
