Carroll Mann Obituary
Duke was a volunteer fireman with the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 1 in Hampton, and a paid fireman with the Ft. Monroe Fire Department. He worked in the Fort Monroe print shop, and then as a printing specialist and quality control specialist for the US Government Printing Office, retiring from there in 2002.
Duke was the epitome of a true gentleman. In all his interactions with people, his desire was to preserve the dignity of others. Duke was an active member of the Lynchburg Sports Club and the Lynchburg Morning Rotary Club. Duke was an active member of Peakland United Methodist Church and especially enjoyed taking part in the fellowship and mission work of the PUMC United Methodist Men. Duke is perhaps best known for his love of sports, particularly football, and most especially his favorite team – the Redskins (nka The Commanders.) He will be sorely missed.
Duke is survived by his wife, Claudia Harper Mann; his son, Jeffrey Haley Mann (Lara Talkington); his daughter, Amy Mann; his brother, Malcolm Forrest Mann; and his two step-grandsons, Finley Clark and Nikolas Russell.
A memorial service will be held in the new year at Peakland United Methodist Church.

Duke and I first met as teenagers in the Hampton Fire Company. We shared many good times over the years and always enjoyed a good laugh together. Duke was a true friend who will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Duke was a co-worker at the Fort Monroe Printing Plant and was well liked by every one. I know he will be sadly missed.

My prayers are with the family. I worked with Duke at GPO Quality Assurance he was such a kind person . Everybody loved Duke we use to have some great laughs.

Duke was a coworker of mine at GPO. He was THE nicest person to work with. He also had a great sense of humor. But, the thing that stands out are our conversations about a small town in Virginia (that is my father´s family´s town that no one ever knows-Deltaville) and he actually was very familiar with it!
My deepest sympathies to Duke´s family and friends. I know he will be greatly missed.
