Carroll Everett Layman

Carroll Everett Layman, 96, of Broadway, passed away November 28, 2025 at Journey's Crossing Assisted Living in Elkton.

Carroll was born in Rockingham County to the late Paul and Mary Branner Layman.

On August 21, 1948 he married the former Otlie Crider Layman, who preceded him in death on March 15, 2007.

Carroll retired after 43 years as the assistant plant manager at Rockingham Poultry. Carroll was the oldest surviving member of Bethel Church of the Brethren in Mayland, where he served on the church board. He was an avid softball player and horseshoe pitcher. He was also a member of the Rockingham County Recreation Board.

Surviving are sons; Monte Layman and wife Clara, of Surfside, SC, Steven Layman of Harrisonburg, daughters; Gay Mitchell and husband Jimmy, of Penn Laird, Linda Mars and husband Mike, of Harrisonburg, 8 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by brothers, Mitchell Layman and Haller Layman and special friend Jean Thomas.

Pastor's Tim Ball and Larry Aikens will conduct a memorial service 1:00 pm Saturday December 6, 2025 at the Bethel Church of Brethren in Mayland. Burial will be private at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Friends and family may view and sign the guestbook on Thursday and Friday from 9 am to 7 pm at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
