Carroll (Cack) H. Newquist, age 92, of West Melbourne, Florida, passed away with grace on March 11, 2024. Carroll was born on October 13, 1931 in Belgrade, Nebraska. He was one of nine children born and raised by the late Hilbert and Agnes Newquist. Carroll married the former Anna L. Walborn of Trevorton, Pennsylvania, who survives. They were married for 62 years.
Carroll was a graduate of Belgrade High School, Nebraska, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954. He reached the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. Carroll continued service in the Nebraska Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1962.
Carroll was a lifetime member of the National American Legion and the VFW organizations. He was also a member of the Otterbein Methodist Church in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.
Carroll had a long and interesting employment history: sawmill machinist, hotel and restaurant co-owner, Celotex factory employee, self-employed contractor and remodeler, nursing home maintenance employee, and finally a horse farm employee just before he retired in his late seventies.
In addition to his wife, Carroll is survived by three children and their families: son Steven L. (married to Penny Newquist) in Pennsylvania, as well as twin daughters, Stephanie L. (married to Wayne W. Hoffman) and Sharon R. (married to George R. Derr, III) in Florida. Carroll is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
His immediate family will have a private service at graveside in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington, Pennsylvania. A celebration of life service for all family and friends will be announced in the future.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Otterbein Methodist Church, 356 Vine Street, Sunbury, Pennsylvania 17801, in memory of Carroll Newquist. Otterbein United Methodist Church
