Carson Barnes was a popular, congenial, and respected Dean of Men during my last two years at William & Mary. He had "large shoes to fill" replacing the legendary Scottie Cunningham who became the first President of Christopher Newport College. Dean Barnes also became legendary by his distinguished career and extraordinary service to the students and College. He will be remembered with great admiration and dearly missed.

Carson H. Barnes,Jr. impacted the lives of many young men and women during many years of community service. There is much silent testimony to his influence at Ferrum College and the College of William and Mary.
I was honored to be his colleague and friend at William and Mary and consider him to be my first mentor in higher education.
Betty and I send our deepest sympathy to Polly, Jane and Elaine on the loss of their husband and father and to the grandchildren on their loss, too.Carson leaves a rich legacy of servant leadership of which his beloved family should be very proud. Love, Betty and Bob Squatriglia.

I offer my Sincere
Condolences to
Polly and their entire Family.
I knew both Polly and
Carson while growing
up in Parksley.
They were well liked
and respected.
Their Marriage was
a delight to all that
knew them.
Mr. Barnes coached
our Parksley girls
sofeball team the
first year I played
at age 13- 14.
He was absolutely
professional, caring,
encouraging and taught us sofeball
rules.
He shall be missed.
