Carter Handy

Scituate – Carter Handy, 80, a resident of the village of Hope for the past twenty-nine years, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at home. He was the beloved husband of Hildegard (Baum) Handy. Born in Coventry he was a son of the late Earl R. and Dorothy (Kenyon) Handy. Mr. Handy was president of the former Clarke, Kendall & Bradley Insurance Agency. He was a member and former financial secretary of Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Pawtuxet Valley Historical Society, of the Board of Incorporators of Kent Hospital and of the Board of Incorporators of Centreville Bank. He was a past president of the Kent County Association of Insurance Agents and of the West Warwick Lions. Besides his wife he is survived by his three children Susan Lee and her husband Darryl of Honolulu, HI, Rebecca J. Handy of West Warwick and John C. Handy and his wife Lisa of West Warwick; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and four nieces. He was the brother of the late Joyce Reynolds and John R. Handy. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Thursday, January 7 at 11:00 AM in Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church, 604 Seven Mile Rd., Scituate and may call at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick TODAY, Wednesday, from 4-8 PM.
