Cassandra “Cass� Nickens was born June 7, 1952 in Berrien Center, MI to Robert L. and Patsy (Norwood) Nickens, who preceded her in death. She was the third of eleven children. She was preceded in death by a sister Theresa Gaskill. Cassandra was a very lively and outgoing person, who loved to socialize with friends and family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Anyone who knew Cass knew she was a very loud person, always laughing. She attended New Harvest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Tonnie Blackamore for a short time. She leaves to cherish her memories, three children Tammy (Andre) Nickens of Dowagiac, Ernestine Nickens of Niles, and Lamont Nickens of Niles, one special daughter Chiffon Gaskill, five grandchildren Quiante, Quionna, Tammea, Daria, and Isabella, nine brothers and sisters Robert (Shirley) Nickens of Dowagiac, Donald (Angela) Nickens of Kalamazoo, August Nickens of Kalamazoo, Tracy Nickens of Lansing, Ronald (Cathy) Nickens of South Bend, Leclay (Bertha) Nickens of South Bend, Barbara (Robert) Scott of Decatur, Veronica (Gonzales) Shivers of Dowagiac, Robin K. Donley of Dowagiac and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, best friend and sister Lorine Green, two god sisters Carolyn Wilson, and Tonya Bailey, two special friends Samuel Warren and Felicia Martin. Cassandra passed away on Tuesday April 12, 2011 at her home. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 – 1 p.m. at Second Baptist Church in Dowagiac where her home going service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday led by Pastor Tonnie Blackamore and Pastor Tracy Roddy. She will be laid to rest at a later date. Yazel & Clark Chapel is serving the family. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the family in care of Tammy Nickens.
