Caterina Santopietro
"Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother& sister"
Caterina (D'Uva) Santopietro, 88, of Waterbury, entered into the gates of heaven on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by those she loved. She was the beloved wife of Domenico Santopietro of over sixty-three years.
Caterina was born in Santa Croce, Benevento, Italy, on July 7, 1937, a daughter of the late Michele and Giovannina (DeMaria) D'Uva. After making the courageous journey to the United States in hopes of a better life, Caterina met and married the love of her life, Domenico where they shared sixty-three wonderful years of marriage together. For many years, Caterina worked hard as a seamstress for Lila Dress and Dibner Dress.
Staying true to her Italian heritage, Caterina loved tending to her impressive vegetable garden, where she would not only can her harvest, but always made sure to share the fruits of her labor with family, friends and neighbors. Being a devout Catholic, Caterina was a longtime parishioner of St. Lucy's Church in Waterbury, and more recently the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Having strong faith, Caterina faithfully prayed the holy rosary every day.
Throughout the years, so many wonderful memories were made with her husband Domenico, family and friends, whether it be trips to the family cabin in Stephentown, NY, having a good debate with someone, or family trips to Cape Cod. Caterina loved watching some of her favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees and UConn Women's Basketball, as well as crocheting. Above everything else, nothing meant more to Caterina then her family. Being a true matriarch of the family, she was devoted to her two grandchildren, whom she referred to as " Sweety" and "Nonni's Sweatheart". Having her family over to spend time together and make memories truly meant everything to her.
Besides her beloved husband Domenico of Waterbury, Caterina leaves behind to cherish her memory her two children, Patricia Lombardi and her husband Joseph of Watertown, and Salvatore Santopietro and his wife Donna of Bethlehem. She also leaves behind two brothers, Carmine D'Uva and his wife Fernanda of Waterbury, Augusto D'Uva of Waterbury, a sister-in-law, Nellina Volta of Wolcott, two grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, Alyssa Dodenhoff and her husband Robert, Domenick Santopietro and his wife Olivia, as well as her six beloved great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Lyla, Luna, and David Dodenhoff, and Roman and Enzo Sanotpietro, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Sebastiano D'Uva.
