Catherine Calhoun

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7 Mrs. Catherine (Cathy/Cat) Heard Calhoun was born on May 17, 1939, in Chambers County, Alabama to the late Mrs. AloraDarden Heard Acres, Mr. Homer Jack Heard and Mrs. Emma Lee Heard. Cathy passed into the great beyond to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 7:20 P.M. at the Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Hartford, CT. Mrs. Calhoun loved the Lord; therefore, at an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lanett, Alabama. After moving to Hartford, she united with the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend Richard Battle. Later she moved her membership to Hopewell Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. George Exum. Cathy loved her church and her Pastor, Rev. David Massey very dearly where served faithfully and dutifully as a member of the Usher and the Hospitality Ministries. Cathy was a 1958 graduate of Lanier High School, Lanett, Alabama and Morris School of Business in 1979. She united in Holy Matrimony to James Calhoun on April 6, 1968, and this marriage lasted for 50 years until her demise. To this union, two children, they loved very much were born Derek and Juandalynn. She was also a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Following in the footsteps of her entrepreneurial father, Homer Jack Heard, she entered the business world and opened Kitty Daycare. She took pride in her daycare and loved the children and their families she provided services to weekly. She also had the pleasure of taking care of the children of children that she served decades before. She cherished the moments when former children would stop by and visit with her. In her free time, she loved early morning gardening and tending to her rose bushes. Cathy was preceded in death by her siblings, Willie Joe, Willie James, Jimmie Lee, Amos, Luvonne and Lutesia. A legacy of love is entrusted to the following survivals: a loving and devoted husband, Mr. James Calhoun, Hartford, CT; a devoted son, Bishop Derek (Sharron) Calhoun, Orange Park, FL and Mrs. Juandalynn (Larry) Heslop, Greer, South Carolina; six brothers, Mr. Homer (Mildred) Heard, Mr. William (Linda) Acres, Mr. Henderson Acres, Jr., Mr. Fob (Brenda) Heard, Mr. Jamie(Janice)Heard all of Lanett, AL; and Mr. Bob (Susie) Heard, Montgomery, AL; a niece reared as a sister, Mrs. Tracey (Joe) Kendrick, Montgomery, AL; seven grandchildren, Ms. Brittanye Calhoun, Chantilly, Virginia; Ms. Candace Calhoun, Charlotte, NC; Ms. Vashti Calhoun and Ms. Taylor Calhoun both of Jacksonville, FL; Ms. Larissa Heslop, Richmond Kentucky; Ms. Lana Heslop, Greer, SC and Mr. Lair Heslop, Overland Park, Kansas; one great grandson, Josiah Curry Charlotte, NC; one great granddaughter, Melia Calhoun, Jacksonville, FL; one aunt, Leila M. McIntosh, Barnegat, NJ; Two goddaughters, Ms. Kendra Patten, Jonesboro, GA; and Mrs. Sherlene(Donald) Jenkins Edmonson, Lanett, AL; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Heard, Lanett, AL and an array of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Burial will be at Pineville Cemetery, Lanett, Alabama.
