Catherine Connolly Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chapman Funerals & Cremations - Bridgewater on Aug. 12, 2022.

Catherine F. "Nunnie" Connolly, 79, of East Bridgewater passed onto eternal life on Aug. 8th at home surrounded by family.
She was the loving wife of the late Joseph M. Connolly and devoted mother of their 11 children. On Sunday, over 150 family members and friends enjoyed one last day with Cathy or "Nunnie" as she was known and called by all. Friends and family shared stories and said their goodbyes.
Cathy was born in Boston, grew up in Dorchester and was the second oldest of 10 children. At 17, her mother passed away thus beginning her pseudo-mom life to her younger siblings. Cathy would later go on to marry Joe on Aug. 24, 1963, and the two would create a family of equally large proportions. They lived in Dorchester for several years, while having several children, before they outgrew the city life and in 1973 moved to East Bridgewater. Cathy would go on to have 11 children in total and establish her country dream home, complete with horses, goats, pigs, dogs, cats, a swimming pool and a myriad of neighborhood children. There was a good chance if you saw a woman, 8-months pregnant, chasing a rogue horse down the street, that was Cathy. She lived for the chaos of her busy household while spreading love to every person that walked through her front door. Her true passions were church, gift giving, coffee cake, swimming, family vacations, horseback riding with friends, and family sporting events. To say that "Nunnie" had a fear of missing out would be an understatement, as she was quite the social lite and rarely missed opportunities to spend time with family and friends. To those who knew her she was an icon; the perfect blend of love, forgiveness, wit, strength, support and most of all, beauty. She gave everything she had to this world and to those she met.
Catherine was the beloved daughter of the late John and Mary (Flynn) Williams. Loving mother of eleven children; Michael and Jackie Connolly of Bridgewater, Joseph Connolly of East Bridgewater, Patrick Connolly of Brockton, Shawn Connolly and Leanne Rooney of East Bridgewater, Mary and Joseph DeMoura of Bridgewater, Maureen and Joseph Freiday of Lakeville, Danny Connolly of Abington, Kevin Connolly and Donna Henderson of East Bridgewater, Brian and Colleen Connolly of Bridgewater, Katie Connolly of Acushnet, and Christopher Connolly of Milton. Proud "Nunnie" of 20 grandchildren and "Great Nunnie" of 4. Sister of John and Joanne Williams, Paul and AnnMarie Williams, Margaret and Paul Kelly, Patricia Costello and her late husband Robert, Eileen Angelli, Ann and Frank Garibaldi, the late Richie Williams, Mary Ann Scanlon, and Joseph Williams. She is also sister-in-law to Debbie Gwynn and Margaret Bennett. She was the aunt to many nieces and nephews and had many cousins as well.
All are cordially invited to the Chapman Funerals and Cremations (Prophett Chapel), 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater on Thursday Aug 18th from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday Aug. 19th at 10am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center Street, Bridgewater. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Massachusetts Citizens for Life.

Dearest Connolly and Williams family,

My deepest and sincerest condolences to all of you.

It would be an understatement to say to know Cathy is to love her, for she had a gift in the way she was able to connect with people in the most caring way.

One day she had visited after my first grandson was born. He had tummy problems with the formula, so was squirmy and unhappy. We were sitting outside and talking as I was trying to find a comfy position to comfort the baby. Of course, Cathy sits down and says "Give him to me". She was the Queen of babies in my mind so I promptly handed him over. She held him in her arm and patted his little bum and he calmed right down. He fell asleep nuzzled up to her. While I was amazed, she kept on the conversation like it was nothing and held that baby for an hour while he slept peacefully. That was just how she was.

I will always hold her with love in my heart, grateful to have known this most beautiful soul. May she Rest In Peace and the love she embodies continue to give you comfort and strength during this time.
