Catherine Mary Cook, age 97, of Neola, died on February 22, 2025.
She was born on May 21, 1927, in Sterling, Colorado, to John Weingardt and Barbara Kaberline.
She married her husband, Artie “Rex” Cook, in December of 1946. Artie worked for Chevron and they raised four sons in Rangely, Colorado, and then retired to Neola. He passed away following a motor vehicle accident in the summer of 1987. A widowed grandmother, Kay served her family, community and parish tirelessly. She kept a beautful garden, a spotless home, and spent her free time sewing, learning piano, playing bridge,
and reading Artie’s extensive collection of books. She was a devout Catholic and attended St. Helen’s parish in Roosevelt. She laundered and tended to the linens every week until she was no longer physically able. She will be remembered as a loyal friend and loving caretaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Barbara, and step-mother, Margaret, her siblings, John, Elizabeth, Joseph, Martin, Frank, Madeline, John Melchoir, and Paul; and her sons, Rodney, Donald “Alan,” Martin and Michael.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Susie Barrett, Genie Le, Angela McCandless, Kelly Lemmo, Claire Meier-Cook, Audra Mazzotta, Emily Cook, Danielle Ware, Hannah Weibel and Noah Cook; great-grandchildren: Jessi, Kacie, Ty, Cody, Nicola, Jennifer, Daniel, Michaela, Jadyn, Josh, Bella, Aiden, Madison, Rex, Carleigh, Coy, Jude, Eiley, Kenslie, Remi, Atlas, Aurora, Adelyn, and Damin; great-great-grandchildren: Koralynn,
Blakely May, and Scarlet.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at St. Helen's Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, with the Rosary beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the Mass beginning at 11:00.
A funeral service will be held the same day, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 4:30 PM, at the Hullinger Mortuary, with a viewing beginning at 3:30 PM.
Burial will be in the Meeker/Highland Cemetery in Meeker, Colorado, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 12:00 Noon.
