Catherine L. DeVaughn, 85, of Upper Marlboro, MD, peacefully passed away at home on November 3rd 2025.

Born to John and Bessie Beall of Bowie, MD, Catherine was born the 7th of 10 children. Catherine loved any chance to get together with family for functions. She had a special love for Christmas time gatherings and the feast that was made each year. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Anyone that ever came to her house for a visit was always offered something to eat! You weren’t going to go hungry on her watch!

Catherine and the love of her life Donald, wed in September of 1967. Of that union came their two sons Randy and Doug. She adored and loved her two boys more than anything in the world. She enjoyed the time spent with them, watching them farm from a young age to later in adulthood. Her and Donald instilled a work ethic in both boys, teaching and helping them raise their first crop of tobacco in the 80s. If anything was learned from raising tobacco, it was definitely the hard work that came along with it. In the summer months she enjoyed cutting grass and keeping up with the landscaping. She made their property look beautiful with all the flowers and trees she had planted through the years.

Catherine’s sister Gloria and her were thick as thieves. The best of friends, you usually wouldn’t see one without the other. In their early years, they worked together at the local department store in Upper Marlboro. Once Gloria began to start a family, Catherine went on to work as a court reporter at the courthouse in Upper Marlboro, until she(Catherine) became pregnant with her first child. After having children, she then began a career at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic school where her boys attended. She started out as a playground attendant and then went on to become a librarian for the school. Later in life, Gloria and Catherine enjoyed shopping, traveling and spending time together raising their kids.

Catherine is predeceased by her husband Donald DeVaughn in 2020, daughter in law Becky DeVaughn in 2015 as well as her Mother and Father John and Bessie Marie Beall. She is also predeceased by her 3 brothers, Junior, Joseph and Elwood along with 5 sisters, Patricia, Martha, Esther, Ida and Agnes. As well as several in-laws and nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her sons Randy(Jennifer) and Doug(Kat) both of Upper Marlboro, MD. Sister Gloria(Alphonso) of Lothian, MD. Grandchildren Olivia, Elizabeth, Joshua, Johnson, Ericka, Levi and Beau and great grandchildren Grace and Riley. Along with several nieces and nephews.
