Catherine was a spiritual person and devoted the remainder of her life in the service of the Boy Scouts. She lived in Battle Creek & Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her closest friends were, Aaron Collins, Kyle & Annie Dumkow, Amy Willis, Kristy Osebold & Stephanie Higgins. Catherine had a love for nature and being in the outside world. If there was a day above freezing you could find her outside walking the nearest nature trail or wandering around camp. Catherine worked 4 summers from 2006-2009 at Lost Lake Scout Reservation as the Ecology Conservation Director. She ventured on in 2011 to work at Rota-Kiwan Scout Reservation as first the Fine Arts Director, then the COPE director/commissioner her second summer on the Boy Scout side of camp and the program director on the Cub Scout side of camp. In this role Cat, worked with volunteers from across the 11 counties in our area to coordinate Training, Activities, Advancement opportunities for our 4,000 adult volunteers and the over 10,000 young men and women in our program. Catherine had a knack for helping other succeed, she was very willing to help other people even when she knew she had her own work to do. She put her friends and family first no matter the situation. If that meant driving at 3am to make sure family was taken care of, she would do it. I am very sorry to hear my friend has passed. We had many good memories together at summer camp for orchestra. She always had a positive attitude, could make you laugh no matter what and a contagious smile. My deepest sympathy to your family, Cat. Thank you for welcoming me into your life and for the countless times we ran around your home and splashed in the pool. She was an incredible person. She is very missed.

Catherine was a professional and did her job with humor, devotion and humility. She was a force when she needed to be. She had a sense of humor that was always present. She was an immediate friend. She will be missed by her Scouting brothers and sisters. The world is a little dimmer these days. She will be remembered by all of us who had the honor of meeting and working with her.

From the Northern Team of the MCC:
Our deepest condolences are with you as you grieve. Cat had a spirit as strong as the "Spirit of Scouting" that will live on forever! Not sure where this poem came from, but I hope it fits:

Do not stand by my grave and weep,
I am not here, I do not sleep.
I'm along the trails we hiked upon
with jaunty step and silly song.
I am the breeze that blows the leaves
of early spring in rustling trees.
When storm clouds clear from the morning sky
and the sun appears, you'll know tis I.
As you sit around the campfire's glow
remember me, I'll be there, you know.
In the thousand tiny sparks that fly
like twinkling stars in the evening sky.
And as the newest Scout you guide
I'm standing here right by your side.
For in this world and all its things
there is nothing like what Scouting brings.
Through Scouting I have learned and grown
I found myself and I have known
A sense that God in his great good
has made the fields, the streams, and woods;
And I'll live on in each boy you show
the way of Scouts, and help him grow
To love his God and fellow man
and to always lend a helping hand.
Do for him what you did for me
let Scouting grow for all to see.
So do not stand by my grave and weep,
I live in you, and the Scout Law you keep.

Cat sounds like an incredible and loving person with a deep appreciation of nature and the creatures who live there. I think she would enjoy the hope held out at Isaiah 11:6-9 where it says that one day the wolf would reside with the lamb, the calf and the lion together, and a small child could play over the lair of a cobra without fear.

I hope you can find some comfort in being surrounded by those she loved and those who loved her. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I've only known Cat for a few years, but the times we spend togther were always positive. I will always remember Cat bringing candy to our meetings, and it would put a smile on my face. She will be missed and her memory will live on.

Cat had a heart for doing what she did best, giving. Acts 20:35, "There is more happiness in giving than in receiving." She gave with her smile, she gave with her heart. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

You'll be missed Cat. You were sunshine every day at camp and the world is a little lesser with you gone.

We are deeply saddened by Cats passing. I only got to work a short time in Scouting with her but she was always positive and uplifting. She will be missed and her memory lasting.

Mrs Gorecki, Liz, and family -
I am so sorry to hear about Catherine. She was a wonderful person and although I had not seen her since high school it is clear she continued to be the same selfless caring individual I came to know at dance and school. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

She touched many hearts in her short years on earth. I remember a conversation with her one summer talking about how she loved Pluots, it's a fruit that you cannot get on the east side of the state. It's a hybrid between a plum and an apricot.

Even though i didn't know you very well, i'm saddened by this news. We worked at KMart together but different departments. May the Lord be with you Catherine.
