Catherine Antoinette "Ruszkowski" Grzybowski

Catherine Antoinette (Ruszkowski) Grzybowski "Rusty", age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, February 9, 2026. She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Noonan) Ruszkowski. She attended Wilmington High School and then studied nursing, obtaining her RN degree in 1958. She worked at the Wilmington General Hospital until its closure and then continued at Christiana Hospital until her retirement, as the coordinator for ER & Trauma.

In addition to nursing, Catherine was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years; President of the Nurses Alumni; and a 15-year volunteer with the Medical Reserve Corps. She used to roller-dance and enjoyed reading and painting. Catherine also loved traveling and adventures. She tried zip-lining, sky-diving, hot air ballooning, parasailing and countless other experiences.

She is survived by her children: Cynthia Grzybowski, Christopher Grzybowski, and Debra L. Grzybowski; her siblings, James Ruszkowski, Patricia Snow, and Anthony Ruszkowski; as well as a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and god-children. She was very much loved.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, William Grzybowski; and her son, William Grzybowski, Jr.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be private.
